Big Brothers - Big Sisters
Big Brothers Big Sisters of America is a non-profit organization that has established the nation's largest mentoring network. The essence of Big Brothers Big Sisters is the match between approved volunteer (known as Bigs) and a child (known as Littles). The children enrolled in the Big Brothers Big Sisters program range in age from 6 through the age of 18. Big Brothers Big Sisters has local offices throughout the United States. The goal for each match is to provide the "Little" with a quality mentor and role model and provide the "Big" with the opportunity to make the difference in the life of a child and do some good for the community.
David A. Wolf proudly volunteered to be a Big Brother in the Big Brothers Big Sisters program. He went through the background check and interview process and then was placed in the pool of pending "Bigs" to be matched with a deserving "Little". In short order, the social worker with Big Brothers Big Sisters matched David up with his "Little" by the name of Harrison. At that time, Harrison was 9 years old and enrolled in the 4th grade in elementary school. He was well cared for and a good student. He had a penchant for legos and reading. Harrison was also in need of a role model due to Harrison's limited contact with his father. After the initial introductions and acclimation to the Big Brothers Big Sisters match, David and Harrison embarked on a friendship that continues forward to the present day.
Big Brothers Big Sisters encourages "Bigs" and "Littles" to spend quality time together. As part of the training process, David A. Wolf was taught to spend time with Harrison on a consistent basis. As instructed by the staff at Big Brothers Big Sisters, the goal of the program is not to financially support the child OR to spend money on the child during every meeting. The goal, however, is to form a strong friendship with the child and to provide consistent mentorship that will enhance the life of the "Big" and "Little" alike.
From elementary school through high school, David and Harrison spent time together playing soccer, kicking field goals, having lunch, and just hanging out with each other. A quick trip to the Office Depot and Staples Office Supply was also a common outing together. That's right, Harrison and David enjoyed walking through the aisles of office supplies and school supplies. As time went on, it was clear that Harrison would eclipse David by height. Harrison played on the high school volleyball team and earned all county honors. He also earned a spot on a travel team which played a number of matches in and beyond the State of Florida. Harrison finally topped out at a height of 6 Feet 3 Inches which did, in fact, tower of David.
Through the years, David saw Harrison grow up into a fine young man and adult. David attended the high school and college graduate of Harrison. He also saw Harrison successfully transition into a career into sports cable and programming as an associate producer. Harrison now lives in New York City with his wife and continues to flourish in the field of sports cable and programming. While 6 Feet 3 Inch Harrison is now an adult with a wife and a career in place, he still looks up to David for advice and guidance from time to time.
In 2013, David A. Wolf founded the Good Deed Brigade. The mission of the Good Deed Brigade is to promote the actions and kindness of people making a difference in the community. By completing this mission, the Good Deed Brigade hopes to encourage others to do their part to make the community a better place.
